Who We AreGreenville County Youth Orchestras (GCYO) is dedicated to providing a quality orchestral program for talented high school and middle school musicians where they can learn the art of orchestral performance, enhance their personal music skills, and grow as individuals. It is the after-school orchestras program of Greenville County Schools. It consists of five orchestras that meet late afternoons and evenings during the school year. Each provides outstanding educational and performing opportunities for skilled and motivated students. Membership in the Greenville County Youth Orchestras is by audition only. Auditions are open to all public, private and home schooled students in Greenville County. GCYO's usual season features three concerts by GCYO's flagship performing organization, the Young Artist Orchestra at the Peace Center's Dorothy Gunter Theater, two School District orchestra concerts held at Wade Hampton High School and the Peace Center for the Performing Arts which feature all groups of the GCYO and the Middle School Orchestra Festival to be held in 2011 at Riverside High School which will feature the Sinfonia. During the 2009-2010 season the Young Artist Orchestra also performed in Atlanta, Georgia for the League of American Orchestras Convention. |
