Young Artist Orchestra in Concert

The Young Artist Orchestra performed at the Woodlands at Furman in their first concert of the season, and their first concert since February, on October 23. It was a great experience for our musicians to have a live performance, and a wonderful experience for the residents! They performed Vivaldi Concerto Grosso and Mozart Divertimento III.

The concert was held outside in the parking lot behind the independent living apartments, with both residents and students socially distanced and “masked up”. Needless to say, this was not a typical concert venue for us, but the weather was beautiful and the YAO rose to the occasion, garnering many compliments from the audience. Woodlands CEO, Mary Lou Merkt wrote in an email “Friday night’s concert was one of the best events we’ve ever hosted here at The Woodlands!  I had heard about the quality and talent of the group, but I honestly had no idea.  Our residents are tired of sheltering from the virus, and the concert was a perfect “pick me up” for them.  So sorry about the construction noise at the beginning.  The young musicians didn’t seem one bit rattled by it, which tells me they are not only talented, but resilient! I hope you all will come back.  And we would love to find other ways to work with the GYSO in the future.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the effort to get the concert together.  It was perfect!”
