Susan Wines’ enthusiasm for music and teaching began as double bass player in middle school. It continued to develop through teacher encouragement as well as participation in All-State, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Marching Band, and Orchestra. After high school, Susan Wines attended Converse College where she graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelors of Music in Instrumental Music Education. She teaches Band, Strings & Yearbook at Ralph Chandler Middle School in Simpsonville, SC. She initiated the Band & Strings program at RCMS in 2008 and it has continued to expand annually. While teaching at Ralph Chandler, she has established a beginning and intermediate program for band and strings as well as a full orchestra honors ensemble. These ensembles have traveled to Music Festivals in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina and received numerous Superior Ratings. In addition to teaching at Ralph Chandler Middle School, she has enjoyed her role of being an adjudicator for Solo & Ensemble Festival; a guest speaker and mentor for pre-service teachers; and guest conductor for Region Orchestra as well as at several Summer Music Camps in the Mid-West and Southeast regions. Susan Wines is lead strings teacher of Greenville County and has been recognized as a WYFF Golden Apple Teacher Award Recipient as well as Ralph Chandler Middle School’s Teacher of the Year.
